Collaro

As the interest in tailored menswear has been steadily growing the past decade it’s only natural one would see a simultaneous increase in stores offering tailored wear as well. The more recent phenomenon however is these offerings being brought into the online store realm. When offering ready to wear garments that does not seem like such a big leap, which to fair it isn’t. But the past few years both made to measure and bespoke online stores have made their entrance into this space, and that on the other hand has been of great significance.

It used to be that made to measure and bespoke was exclusively offered only by in-store visits and understandably so. It’s not easy to fit a garment without the actual fitting. Now, anecdotally of course, somehow the made to measure garments I have ordered online far outcompete the fit of the mtm garments I commissioned in store some 5 years ago. One such place is Collaro.

More importantly however, does their garment match the level of their customer service? Yes it they do.

I have gradually made the steps from ready to wear to made to measure, spent quite a few years as a returning mtm customer at Ring Jacket, which really is the pinnacle of ready to wear, and the past few years moved on to bespoke.

As Collaro is my first experience with online mtm, it wouldn’t be an apples to apples comparison to for instance Ring Jacket, and that’s eliminating price from the equation which would make the comparison ridiculous as Collaro comes in at about 1/5 the damage of what a Ring Jacket suit will run you.

So what I am left with judging is the tailoring and fit in a somewhat isolated comparison, but honestly it doesn’t have to be. Unequivocally, the suit I received from Collaro fits perfectly, it’s well tailored and I saw nothing worth complaining about, even if I left all goodwill aside, there is still nothing but praise left. So much so that I’ve returned and placed more orders.

In terms of details I’m equally satisfied with what they offer. As you can see above they have 3-roll-2 buttoning and they offer impressively wide lapels, something that is quite rare to see.

I don’t like to move into the large lapel-fanatic camp, and although the ones I went for with Collaro are quite on the larger side, the point is more that more often than not, or always rather, the offering is just not quite there and it becomes a compromise. That is not the case with Collaro.

Moving downwards to the trousers, the second -often experienced compromise comes to mind, which is the rise. Yet again Collaro impresses and although I am not sure if the sky is the limit here, they could meet my preferences without a problem. I dare say that I’m a good scale to measure whether you’ll be satisfied from as I have yet to find anyone within reason who prefers a higher rise than me.
As for the belt, I have trousers with both one-button and with two-button configurations and I’m equally satisfied with either. For the suit trousers I went with the latter and it looks great!

The vast selection of details you can choose from should not leave anything to be desired in my book. Spelling out the whole selection e.g. left pocket, right pocket, both, jetted pockets, patch pockets etc. it’s all there for your choosing, don’t worry. The one thing that I think is worth mentioning is that details such as side-adjuster shape and lapel width are chosen from the “more info” option on the respective detail option, so just make sure you select those before completing the order.

That said, given the incredible service Collaro provides, I have no doubt they will answer questions and provide help where needed.
